2013 Nutmeg State Games Male Athlete of the Year: Patrick Creel (Ice/Roller Hockey)

Patrick has been a participant in the Nutmeg State Games for the past five years (2009 - 2013) in Roller Hockey and Ice Hockey. Every year Patrick is excited and eager to play in the "Games", express his passion for the sport of Hockey, and the exhilaration he gets from the competition.

Patrick has worked to take some teams, particularly in roller hockey, from humble beginnings to having continued success in the Games. With his commitment and dedication to hard work Patrick has won many medals in both Roller and Ice Hockey.  Patrick has said that the sport has taught him valuable life lessons such as: Dealing with adversity, working with a cohesive team, and being humble in victory. Patrick’s coach and Father, Jay Creel, had this to say about his son, “He always demonstrates respect for his opponents and leaves all his effort out on the rink.”His attitude and effort are exemplified by his commitment to support his teammates in both victory and defeat. Over the last 6 years Patrick has shown individual leadership that had not gone unnoticed by his coaches and event organizers alike. Patrick doesn’t only make waves on the ice, but off the ice as well. He is working towards developing a new intramural Lacrosse program for 2014 at Plainville Middle School, and has shown interest in teaching younger players how to skate and share in the sport of hockey. Patrick currently has a 3.81 GPA .In 2013 Patrick’s ice hockey team won both the State of CT championship and the New England Region Championship. As for the future, Patrick hopes to attend Avon Old Farms and continue to play Hockey, Rugby, and Lacrosse.
